ENQUIRY THROUGH ASANA
Self-Enquiry lies at the heart of any true spiritual practice and asana practice is really no different. Self-Enquiry, or Atma-Vichara, means to inquire into the very essence of who we are, the deepest part of our sense of self. The yogis and ancient scriptures assert that this core of ourselves is none other than infinite existence, consciousness and bliss. Knowing this brings ultimate liberation. Many practices assert that this enquiry can only be done in stillness, but we are proposing that moving, being in the body, and breathing are actually the perfect time and place to find that which is inside. Asana is then used as a tool to see deeper within us, to guide our focus and concentration and turn it to that inner depth and effulgence, to continually discover what is deep within our hearts. To me, a holistic approach to yoga fuses the elements of different branches of yoga, in this particular case, Jnana and Hatha, making it a more robust and practical path towards awakening.
